Community Health Workers Can Play Vital Role in U.S. Healthcare Reform
Community health workers (CHWs), who are integral to healthcare in parts of the developing world, can also play a vital role in U.S. healthcare reform, according to a report released by the Arnhold Institute for Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Office of the U.N. Special Envoy for Health in Agenda 2030 and for Malaria. But they can only be effective if the programs receive institutional support and sustainable financing.

Nurses Learn About Advancing Excellence in Challenging Times
“We definitely need nurses to be part of the care team. Labor-Management Partnership Leads to Success at Good Samaritan Hospital
Thirty employees from Good Samaritan Hospital recently departed from their normal routine to attend an all-day Patient-Centered Care (PCC) training in Suffern, New York, the last in a series of 33 sessions. They were instructed by two of their own: Care Partner Cheryl White and Dionne Parker-Peterkin, a registered nurse. Both women were at ease as they delivered the curriculum in a room filled with their peers.

Staff from the Labor Management Project (LMP), Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center (BHLC) and Mount Sinai Queens (MSQ) were part of the poster session at the 2016 Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) National Forum on Quality Improvement in Healthcare, December 4-7. More than simply a chance to network, the forum provides nearly 6,000 healthcare professionals with opportunities to gain actionable ideas for their organizations and help effect real change in healthcare quality and safety.
