As part of our ongoing commitment to give our clients accessible and timely assistance, the Labor Management Project (LMP) has begun providing customized training for participants at their work locations.

A two-part training was done in April and May for Northwell Health Physician Partners in New Hyde Park, New York. This organization was interested in improving the effectiveness of meetings across all units in order to boost communication and efficiency.

Working with the LMP development team, LMP consultants Diann Jeffers and Maria Charles prepared a curriculum focusing on meeting and facilitation skills. They then co-facilitated the training, delivering it to 34 team members, a combination of labor and management staff. The training included creating a working agreement, building agendas and facilitation skills using interactive approaches that engaged participants at all levels.

The staff is now able to facilitate effective meetings and offer recommendations to improve the efficiency of other committee meetings they participate in. Offering this educational opportunity on-site made it easier for staff to participate, since no additional travel time was required to attend the training and they were familiar with their learning environment.

Because this initiative was so successful, Physician Partners requested that the LMP introduce a second on-site training, on effective communication and joint leadership, which is being rolled out this month.
